What is IELTS?
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is the world’s most popular English proficiency test for overseas education and immigration. IELTS is accepted by over 15000 universities, colleges, schools, organizations and associations in over 150 countries worldwide.
The IELTS Test is co-owned by British Council, IDP Australia and Cambridge Assessments.
How does IELTS Work?
The IELTS Test has been developed by global language experts to assess a complete range of language skills that may be required for successful entry into overseas education institutions, job placements or immigration purposes.
In the IELTS Test the students are assessed in 4 areas of English Language:
1. Listening
2. Reading
3. Writing
4. Speaking
Which Test to Choose?
The IELTS Test is available in two formats-
1. IELTS Academic, and
2. IELTS General Training
IELTS Academic Test is to be taken by students aspiring to study abroad as it assesses the student’s level of English level proficiency for academics. The IELTS Academic Test measures whether or not you are up to the level of language proficiency required by universities and colleges for curriculum delivery.
The IELTS General Training – measures the English language proficiency of the test taker in respect to social situations and everyday context. It should be taken by individuals planning to migrate to other countries on a professional or business context.
The IELTS Test Format
It is always advantageous to understand the format of the Test that you are planning to take. The overall format of both the IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training are the same, however they differ very slightly in the complexity.
The 3 parts of the test – Listening, Reading and Writing are conducted on the same day and in the same order without any break in between. A detailed description of the format is as follows:
